We are now a Health Mart!
We are excited - we will celebrate our grand re-opening as a Health Mart Pharmacy on February 16th, 2012. We have joined Health Mart, the fastest growing independent pharmacy network in the United States. We are and will continue to be a locally-owned independent retail pharmacy serving Pocahontas and surrounding communities.
While our décor, signage, and logo will change, we will continue to deliver the same high level of personal care and quality service to Pocahontas residents and their families.
To celebrate the grand opening event, beginning at 9 am on February 16th, 2012, we are having an open house – and you are invited!
“Health Mart is a strong and respected brand in independent pharmacies across the country,” said Pat Sturtz, R.PH, owner of Pocahontas Pharmacy, Inc. Health Mart Pharmacy. “We’re adopting the Health Mart look to better reflect our promise to our customers: You can trust us, your local Health Mart pharmacy to understand your family’s special healthcare needs, to give you expert advice, and to offer personalized service.”
Purchased in 1983, we are the only locally-owned pharmacy in 20+ miles of Pocahontas. We provide healthcare services such as free home delivery, online refill ordering, diabetic shoes, and mail-out prescriptions.
A little about Health Mart... Health Mart pharmacies are locally-owned community pharmacies, offering the special care and service that people can only receive from a member of a community, including:
• Plan acceptance — Health Mart pharmacies accept most insurance plans at the same co-pay as national chains.
• Everyday savings — Health Mart pharmacies offer competitive pricing that is often lower than the national chains.
• Health and wellness — Health Mart’s comprehensive online Health and Wellness Education Center offers practical information on important health topics. Visit www.pocahontaspharmacy.com for more information.
• Service — As always, Health Mart pharmacies go above and beyond, striving to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families.
• Everyday convenience — Health Mart pharmacies serve customers quickly and efficiently and offer several free services to help meet your needs.
• Quality products — Health Mart pharmacies offer popular Health Mart products, which are just as effective as national brands for less cost.

Did you get your prescription filled someplace else?
By Pat Sturtz, R. Ph
Let’s say you go to a doctor in another city we’ll call Metropolis and they give you an important prescription that must be started right away. Being a good patient, you go to a pharmacy in Metropolis because it will be late when you get home. Did you tell the pharmacist in Metropolis what other medications you were taking? Did they ask? Did you tell your local pharmacist what new medication you started taking that won’t be on the computer at your local pharmacy?
I recently had a customer begin taking a powerful new medication that interacts with many other medications. They had the prescription filled at another pharmacy. Our pharmacy computer alerted me through the insurance messaging to this new medication when I was processing one of their prescriptions. Not all insurance companies notify us of a new medication filled. This is important information that your local pharmacist should know about. I was able to discuss the possible interactions with them and come up with a solution to this potentially dangerous situation.
This situation also applies to medications that you routinely get from other pharmacies. You may be seeing several doctors and using a couple of pharmacies. Someone needs to have a complete list of the medications you take. Being your local pharmacist, we would like to be the one you trust to keep a complete list for you.
Our pharmacy computer system allows us to enter drugs in your drug list that are filled somewhere else. It could be dangerous to combine some medications or you may have two medications that are duplicating each other. Knowing your complete medication list helps both the doctor and the pharmacist.
We all want to keep you safe. We have free wallet cards that you can fill out and keep with you to show your medical provider all of the medications you are currently taking. Caring for you and about you!
